Take our survey: What is your ideal political platform?

Rifts have emerged within Democratic and Republican parties.  We apply our new approach to polling analysis to see where America really stands.

Immediate "paradigm shift" in America's Iraq strategy warranted: Iran finalizing its control of Iraq.

U.S. political, military, and media figures are debating whether the U.S. should withdraw from Iraq immediately or when progress against the insurgency permits a hand-off to Iraqi forces.  Iran - not al Qaeda or the insurgency - is the primary threat to Iraq's democratic viability and is an immediate threat to U.S. influence in the Middle East.  Iran's upper hand means it has no need for compromise.

Bush's Iran strategy: Trading Russian support for a missile shield?

02 July 2007

If you were an American president who wanted to do everything shy of an invasion to stop Iran's nuclear program, you might consider threatening to build a missile shield in Europe that would upset the strategic balance of power with Russia.  Further, you would claim that the purpose of the missile shield is to defend Europe from Iranian missiles and its burgeoning WMD programs.

Russia is the main supplier of Iran's nuclear technology and is helping Iran build its first nuclear reactor.  Also, Russia is a main supplier of military hardware and other technology to Iran.  Without Russian assistance, Iran would be severely crippled in its ability to produce missiles capable of reaching Europe and to complete its nuclear program.

So, by pledging to build a missile shield in Europe, a proposition Russia abhors, you could manufacture an opportunity to make a fair trade with Russia: the U.S. will halt its plans for a missile shield in Europe if Russia halts its support for the Iranian programs against which the shield is purportedly designed to protect.
